Vertical dropouts hold the rear axle at a fixed
distance from the cranks and nine times out of
ten this doesn’t put the rear wheel at the right
spot for a single speed drivetrain. The result is a
chain that is too loose or too tight. The Melvin
takes care of the chain tension and lets you run
a single speed wheel on almost any frame with a
derailleur hanger.

The Melvin uses two pulleys, just like a rear
derailleur, which gives it 20 teeth of chain wrap.
This means that the Melvin will work with
multiple front chain rings while maintaining
proper chain tension. Of course this is no longer
a true single speed, but can come in handy when
two or three gears are all you need. Twenty teeth
of chain wrap means that chain rings with a
maximum difference of twenty teeth can be used
up front.

The mounting pivot has spacers that can be
arranged to adjust the chainline. The Melvin
works best, of course, with our hubs, but the
chainline spacers allow it to work with most
other hubs too. In addition to the pivot spacers,
the pulleys have side to side float to quiet slight
variances in chainline.

The pulleys are made of extruded and machined
aluminum and have sealed bearings for
durability. They are 2.25mm thick at the tooth
which fits inside most narrow multi-speed
chains, and the pulley cage is wide enough to
allow 1/8″ single speed chains as well.

For those people still running v/linear/direct pull brakes,
we offer the Motolite. This brake has proven itself to be the
best of this genre time and time again: it’s high-powered,
has excellent modulation and is easy to adjust/maintain.
The Motolite, Paul Components' flagship linear pull brake, has
been around the block a time or two. Paul considers the design is
so near to perfect that there is no foreseeable reason to ever
change it. First introduced in 1990, Paul's brake pivot mechanism
has an excellent track record. A stainless steel bushing mates
the brake to the frame's brake posts and provides a larger bearing
surface with a tightly controlled tolerance.The brake arms are
precision ground and then CNC machined into a light weight, but
more importantly strong and reliable form. A brake collar fits
around each cylindrical arms and holds the Kool-Stop brake pads
in place, while allowing them to be finely tuned for height and
toe-in. These pivots are pre-greased for smooth action and sealed
to keep them that way. Specially wound square springs offer a
snappy return and are easily adjusted and balanced. The quick-
release mechanism is simple but reliable, allowing you to easily
open up the brake when you need to, but never rattling open on
its own. The cable enters the brake through a curved noodle with
a Teflon lining for reduced friction. Thanks to the switchable
brake arms the cable can be routed into the brake from the left or
right

The Touring Canti is a powerful cantilever brake
with a similar design to the Neo-Retro, but with
the arms angled upward. This gives the brake a
much narrower profile without significantly
reducing stopping power.
The narrower profile of the Touring Canti can be
desirable if you're riding with large panniers or if your
current brakes don't give you enough heel or calf
clearance.The arms of the Touring Canti are
machined from lightweight 6061 aluminum. A T-
shaped cross section prevents the brake from flexing
too much. The brake pads mount to slots in the arms
that allow for vertical positioning. The toe-in and
angle can be fine tuned .
Like all of Paul Components' brakes, the Touring
Canti has a sealed pivot mechanism. Rubber seals
and a stainless steel bushing keep the brake arms
turning smoothly no matter what you're riding
through. The spring tension can be adjusted in both
pivots to center the brake and to adjust the strength
of the return swing.

The MiniMoto is our mini-v brake for use with
standard short pull brake levers. We absolutely
love it, as does anyone who’s ever ridden one.
The MiniMoto is a direct pull cantilever brake. This
design is simpler to install than a traditional
cantilever brake, and gives the MiniMoto a narrow
profile. The arms of the MiniMoto have been
shortened to match the leverage of standard road
brake levers, making the MiniMoto compatible with
drop bar brake levers with integrated shifters. The
short curved arms give plenty of clearance for
cyclocross tires or wide fenders. The spring tension
is independently adjustable for each arm which
means the brake can be precisely centered on the
wheel and adjusted for return strength.
The cable enters the brake through a barrel adjuster
at the top of the curved cable noodle. This adjuster
makes it quick and painless to fine-tune the cable
tension of the brake without tools. Like all Paul
Component brakes, the MiniMoto has sealed
stainless steel bushings in the pivots. These
precisely machined bushings are what contact the
brake posts of the frame and give the brake arms a
smooth surface to pivot on.

The Cross Lever is an inline brake designed for use on the flat upper section of drop handlebars. It can be used with short-pull or
long-pull brakes and road bars.
By routing your existing brake cable and housing from your drop levers through the Cross Lever, you can have two sets of brake levers that
allow you to control your speed from multiple hand positions.
The Cross Lever can also be used on its own: Just let the head of brake cable sit in the recess for the housing on the outside of the lever
The Cross Lever fits onto the thicker stem clamp area of handlebars, and a hinged clamp allows for installation without needing to strip your
bar tape. A barrel adjuster makes it easy to fine tune your cable tension.
Two versions are available to fit handlebars with a stem clamp area diameter of 26.0mm or 31.8mm. Additionally, the hinged clamp of a 26.0mm
Cross Lever is designed in a way that also allows it to mount securely on handlebars with a 25.4mm diameter stem clamp area.
Fully CNC’d construction gives them a solid feel in the hand, and they are designed to work with any kind of brake. The Cross Lever is both a
Short Pull and a Long Pull lever, depending upon the position of the adjustable pivot.
The levers come with their pivot pins in the hole closest to the handlebar. This location is for short pull brakes: road calipers, center pull
cantilever brakes, like our Racer, Racer Medium, Neo-Retro, and Touring Canti, and road mechanical disc brakes, like the short-pull Klamper.
Moving the pivot pin to the outer hole makes the levers compatible with long pull brakes, like our Motolites and the long-pull version of the
Klamper.

The Funky Monkey is a simple, hanging housing stop for front and rear center pull and cantilever brakes. This simple part is brought to a
whole new level with our renowned machining prowess.

We make a front and a rear version. The front comes in 7/8″, 1”, AND 1-1⁄8” sizes, the rear is 27.2mm and is meant for mounting on a seatpost.

The front Funky Monkey features an extra-long arm that drops down to prevent brake cable housing from bending too tightly and binding up. The arm
sticks out far enough to clear most headsets.

The rear Funky Monkey has a hinged arm to self-align for the proper cable angle.

Both front and rear versions have a barrel adjuster to make brake cable adjustments quick and painless.

When we introduced our Moon Unit in
the nineties, it was one of the first high
quality aftermarket cable carriers.
Because so many of you wanted us to
reintroduce the Moon Unit, we made it
happen.
The Moon Unit has a raised boss for the
brake cable clamp that makes setup easy
and ensures cable security. Machined
channels on the face of the Moon Unit
hold the cables in place and an 8mm hex
on the back allows you to actually put a
wrench on it.
All Moon Units are sold as a pair, with
one Unit for each of your brakes, front
and rear.

Black Moon Unit
The Boxcar Stem is the perfect combination of stiffness, strength and reasonable weight.  Available in +/- 0 in 50, 70
and 90mm. Also +/- 15 in 70 and 90mm. All screws are high strength stainless steel with the popular T25 head. Made in
Chico, California with US sourced 2024 aircraft alloy.
This stem was designed from the ground up to be stiff, strong and pretty darn light too. We went through several design iterations
and believe we’ve reached the best combination of these three principles. Extensive real world and machine testing and proven
this to be one strong stem.
With respect to torsion, the rounded box shape is some 25% stiffer than the competition. As for strength, we ran it through
1,000,000 cycles of above normal use stress without a single problem.
The stems come in a zero rise and a +/- 15 degree rise. Lengths are 50, 70 and 90mm. All screws are the same pan head T25 Torx
type screws in stainless steel. Why Torx? Because they work so well, and are the same wrench size as the ubiquitous rotor screws
all makers use. Also SRAM has made a switch to T25 screw heads in almost all their products, which is a good sign.
As usual, by letting the function and material properties dictate the shape of the product, we have come up with another one of
our often complimented and purposeful designs. Yes, it looks a little different, but with us there is always one good reason for
this: to make it work as awesome as possible.

The High Flange Rear is a single speed hub with large diameter flanges. Many options are available for threading, axle
spacing, and spoke count.
We machine these hubs from three inch round bars of 6061 aluminum. The hub shells are put through four different machining
processes before they go to finishing, and the end result is something we’re very proud of. The wide flanges have six window cutouts
in them to save weight and draw on the influence of classic track hubs.
The hub shells are available with dedicated fixed gear threading on one side only, or in a flip-flop version with fixed threading on one
side and freewheel threading on the other. Proper left-handed lock ring threading keeps fixed gear cogs secure, and our heavy-duty
stainless steel lock ring is included.
The axle is ground from 7075 aluminum, which has a great strength to weight ratio. The outer lock nut faces are made of knurled
steel for a solid grip against dropouts. Two axles are available with 120mm or 130mm outer lock nut spacing. The ends of the axle are
threaded to receive our stainless steel axle bolts. Hub Service Parts are available to convert between axle lengths.
We use high-fill sealed bearings in the High Flange Rear, and they can be adjusted with our simple adjuster ring.
The chainline on the High Flange Rear is spaced to 44mm for the fixed cog, and 48mm for the freewheel.
spoke holes are chamfered to reduce stress on the head and elbow of the spoke.

Paul Love Levers
The Love Lever is a lightweight long-pull brake lever designed for two-finger or three-finger operation and easy adjustment. The
design balances comfort and weight without feeling flimsy in your hand. The Compact fits two fingers and the 2.5 fits three. The
Love Lever Compact has a lever blade that is about 20mm shorter than the 2.5 model.
These levers are compatible with all long-pull cable operated brakes. We recommend them for use with our Motolite brakes, but they will work
well paired with any v-brake, long-pull mechanical disc brake, (like our Klamper), or any other long pull brake. For a short pull brake lever see
our Canti Lever.
These levers are machined in house to exacting specifications. The pivot features a dual sealed cartridge bearing for the smoothest, stiffest

The Canti Lever is a short pull brake lever for use with short pull brakes like cantilevers, center pull brakes, and side pull caliper brakes.

This little goodie allows you to mount any SRAM under-bar trigger shifter to a 31.8
drop bar. Why do you need this? Doesnt SRAM make their own road shifter? Well, yes

Paul Cranks take advantage of the narrower chainstays found on road frames, and the 44mm chainline of High
Flange hubs.

These cranks use a specially designed interlocking chain ring/crank interface. Four 7075 Aluminum chain ring
bolts with T25 Torx heads bolt through the chain ring and into the reinforced spider on the crank arm.

The crank arms are machined from 2024 aluminum, a very strong and stiff material. They are given a high polish
finish and optional black anodize. The crank arms are available in two lengths: 165mm and 170mm.

The chain rings are machined out of 6.3mm thick aluminum plate; very sturdy. Wider teeth designed only to work
with 1⁄8” chains which prolongs their life span. Replacement chain rings are available.
